Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Fretnaught mobile application ("the app", "Fretnaught", "we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use it. Fretnaught is operated by Blayne Robinson, a sole proprietor located in Ontario, Canada.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, log, or transmit any of the following:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact information
• Your geographic location (precise or approximate)
• Your device's advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID, Apple IDFA)
• Your device's unique identifier, hardware ID, or IMEI
• Crash reports, error logs, or diagnostic information
• Usage analytics or behavioural data
• Any information about your other installed apps or device usage patterns
• Audio recordings or microphone input
• Photos, videos, or media from your device
• Your contacts, calendar, or messages

Fretnaught contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no tracking pixels.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

Fretnaught uses your operating system's standard local app storage to remember your preferences between sessions. This information is stored only on your own device, in the app's private sandbox, and is never transmitted anywhere:

• The most recent musical key you selected
• Your tuning preference
• Whether left-handed mode is enabled
• Whether you have completed the introductory walkthrough
• A list of recently visited keys (most recent five)

This information is removed when you uninstall the app.

3. Permissions

Fretnaught does not request any device permissions. It does not need access to:

• The internet — the app is fully offline
• The microphone
• Storage outside its own sandbox
• Your camera, contacts, calendar, location, or photos

4. Children's Privacy

Fretnaught is suitable for users of all ages. Because we do not collect any personal information from anyone, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA, United States) and equivalent regulations worldwide by design.

5. Donations

If you choose to support development through a donation link from within the app, the donation is processed entirely by an external third-party platform (such as Buy Me a Coffee, Ko-fi, or Stripe). When you tap the donation link, your device's web browser opens to that external platform's site.

We do not see, store, or have any access to your payment information. The donation platform may collect information independently — please refer to that platform's own privacy policy. We receive only an anonymised payout summary from the platform showing total donations received.

6. International Users

This policy applies equally to users in all jurisdictions, including:

• European Economic Area (GDPR) — As we collect no personal data, there is no processing activity subject to the General Data Protection Regulation. You have no data to access, export, correct, or delete because we hold none.
• California (CCPA / CPRA) — We do not "sell" or "share" personal information because we do not collect any.
• Canada (PIPEDA) — As we collect no personal information, there are no consent, retention, or breach-notification obligations to fulfil.

7. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, lease, or trade any information with third parties — because we do not have any information to share.

8. Changes to This Policy

If a future version of Fretnaught ever changes how the app handles data (for example, if optional cloud features or analytics are introduced), we will update this Privacy Policy and the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be highlighted in the app's release notes.
